Purposity is a platform dedicated to inspiring our online community to live generously and find purpose. To get to know us a little better, visit the Our Story page.
Once you download the app, you'll be able to see needs near you and follow your favorite organizations. Be sure to get the app in either the App Store or Google Play. Once a week, we'll send a friendly notification letting you know about needs from your organizations or ones closest to you. Click the link, read the story, and decide if you'd like to help, right from your phone in under a minute. The price of the item is clearly displayed so you know exactly what you’re getting into. We'll take care of the shopping and shipping for you, making sure the exact item gets into the hands of who needs it most. You'll get notifications updating you of your item's progress and when it arrives, along with a thank you message from the organization you're supporting.
You might get anything from school supplies for a child in foster care or a pair of shoes for a student experiencing homelessness, to small furniture items for a family who lost their home in a house fire. And, no matter your means, there's always something for you to do on Purposity. The average request is right around $30. You can always scroll through needs to see which ones speak to you.
Purposity works with partner nonprofits, local school systems, and agencies to source needs. They generally come from school social workers, case managers, and other vetted staff members. There is a submission and approval process to assure all needs meet our strict criteria and come from trusted sources.
Our core mission is building communities and zip codes are a great way to figure out what needs are near you. We need your zip code so we can make sure you’re getting notifications of needs in your area. If we're not in your community yet, zip codes are how we know where to head next.
There's no overhead for you. In fact, 100% of your donation goes to meeting needs. Plus, since we're a nonprofit organization, you'll get a handy tax receipt at the end of each calendar year, just in time for taxes, with everything you've donated on Purposity.
Purposity originated in Atlanta, Georgia but is quickly popping up all over the U.S. We’re expanding quickly, so we may already be in your area. To see where we're currently live, download the app, head to the "Nearby" feed, and click on your location. A list will pop up of current and upcoming communities. Look for the ⚡️icon to know which cities are live.
Absolutely. We house all the needs, along with the stories, on your profile page. There, you'll see the number of needs you've met, total dollar amounts, and be able to relive feeling good about giving. Plus, you can click into needs and see the thank you messages! It's pretty cool.
Definitely. Just head to your "Organizations" tab in the app to see which organizations are posting needs near you. Check out their profile to see what they do and give them a follow!
We'd be happy to work with you on your story. Just shoot us an email here, and we'll coordinate with you.
You must be a full-time staff member at an eligible organization (see below). For schools, that generally means school social workers, homeless/foster care liaisons, counselors, or administrators. Sorry, teacher friends, please get with one of those individuals about posting needs. For our nonprofit and government agency friends, we generally partner with case managers or other equivalent positions.
One thing that’s super important - we never ask for any data or personally identifying information (no names of students/clients, addresses, etc.). Instead, we ask that you complete a simple online form and provide a few details about the person’s story to help Supporters understand why that item is important.
Sure, once you're approved. If you're certain staff members at a nonprofit, school district, or government agency, you can let us know you'd like to post needs. Please feel free to visit the Organization Page. That will walk you through the process and answer all your questions.
Great question. We look for one-to-one essential item requests for those you’re serving. No programmatic or staff use requests (and definitely no personal requests), please. If it’s on Amazon, something that’s essential, under $250 (the average need is $30) and can be shipped for a reasonable price, it’s probably a good Purposity candidate.
Sure. For schools, we generally post anything from clothing items (think shoes, coats, socks, etc.) to school supplies (backpacks, calculators, etc.) and stuff students may need to participate in extracurricular activities. Many districts also use us to lend a hand to their families with small household requests (think diapers, formula, etc.). For our nonprofit partners, it’s a pretty wide range from items like dishes and kitchen essentials, to nonperishable food and clothing for their clients. Everything is new and shipped directly to you from Amazon. Purposity does not accept donations of used items.
Pure magic. No, but really, we have a team of writers who take the information you give us and craft it into the story that your supporters read. If they’re moved, they purchase the item right from their phone, and our community managers ship it to you at your office. You then get it into the hands of the person that needed it.
For our partner organizations, we look for a few things. First, you’re a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, government agency, or school. Second, you have the online and social media presence, plus the full-time staff capacity, to launch Purposity and keep your Followers engaged. Lastly, if your nonprofit is faith-based, the program must be non-proselytizing to qualify. If you meet these criteria, please keep reading!
